It would be really cool to combine two spaces visually and audibly, virtually extending a wall from one hackerspace into our hackerspace.
Equipment
- Projector
- Webcam
- dot of paper to block out projector light
- Microphones
- Speakers
Software
Initially, could be done with MJPEG stream servers and mplayer, or entirely through webcam streaming software. (Maybe even Skype :/). Could use better noise cancellation.
Ideology
We have the technology, we can break this barrier. We can record and compress video fast enough to transmit across the world and project another space as our wall, kind of like a portal. But a portal would also allow other radiation in, like sound. At least one microphone and one speaker to share audio, but I think we could handle 5 streams at some point. Later software could use 3d positioning of sound to enhance the illusion.
