Theater Discussion Night was created by Dustin Cox and Lloyd Black. It was originally created to show 80's sci-fi movies we both enjoyed. Naturally, it has evolved to show even more movies that are still as fun to watch. The discussion part adds another aspect to the event that enables everyone to discuss, critique and share their thoughts about each movie shown. Additionally, the discussion aspect also puts the event into the "fair use" area since we are using the event for educational, research and other reasons. The event is always free to members and others who members bring with them.

Dustin and Lloyd solely decide what movies will be shown. We decide on what movies are best and are thought provoking which will lead to productive discussions. Movies that aren't that interesting or considered generally stupid will not be shown. Most horror movies made today fall into the category of being senseless and stupid. Requests can be made but there's absolutely no promise the movie will be shown. It will be talked about first between Dustin and Lloyd to be considered interesting enough to be scheduled for viewing. All movies are previewed by Lloyd even before being discussed to determine if they worth being discussed. However, there are a lot of movies that are worth being shown and good movies are welcome for being requested. Eventually, a list will be put up for types of movies that are more likely to be shown.

::Additionally, this rule may change considerably soon as it may be opened to outside visitors of the lab to save the event from being cancelled due to low attendance.

Every movie shown will be owned by either Lloyd or Dustin, most likely Lloyd. We will not be renting or streaming any movies or shows. There may not be any laws against viewing rented movies in the setting of the event but it's just how we do things. So, please do not suggest or insist we watch a movie from ANY rental or streaming service. It won't be done, so don't even try bringing it up. If there are any exceptions, they will be pre-planned by Dustin and Lloyd for specific reasons. We won't be making exceptions on the fly during an event.

Theater Discussion Night

Theater Discussion Night was created by Dustin Cox and Lloyd Black. It was originally created to show 80's sci-fi movies we both enjoyed. Naturally, it has evolved to show even more movies that are still as fun to watch. The discussion part adds another aspect to the event that enables everyone to discuss, critique and share their thoughts about each movie shown. Additionally, the discussion aspect also puts the event into the "Fair use" area since we are using the event for commentary, education, research and other reasons. Often, the discussion part of the event is one of the best sections of the event as it allows everyone to share ideas and perspectives of the movie plot and other aspects. The event is always free to members and others who members bring with them.

Movie Selection

There won't be a list of potential movies anymore. If there is a list kept, it will be between Dustin and Lloyd.

A schedule might be developed but it will be a short one so people may decide what events to attend.

Attendance of Events

If you attend any of the events we ask you to adhere to a few things listed here which are mostly polite things for everyone's enjoyment:

1. Arrive 30 minutes before the time of the event. This is so the event won't be delayed waiting for people who planned to attend. It is generally common sense to get to a theater before the movie starts to get a proper seat, the same applies to this event.

2. Do not talk during the event. This includes talking on the phone or others in the room. It is suggested that silencing or put your phone on vibrate is best before the event starts. Additionally, please use headphones if you are not in the room for the event. Everyone is welcome to attend, but please be aware that the event is for enjoying the movie and distractions take away from that enjoyment.

4. Non-members are welcome to attend the event if they are invited and with a member. Members may bring more than one non-member guest. The only limitation is the capacity of the room.

5. Unplanned event guests are welcome as long as they arrive early with everyone else and the room has enough capacity. If there's enough room, we won't be turning away event guests.

6. Staying for the discussion part of the event is expected for everyone attending. It's an important aspect of the event. It's also one of the more interesting parts of the event.

Event Cost

As stated above, this event is totally free and will stay that way. If anyone wishes to make donations, the donations will only go towards snacks and beverages for the events. Dustin and Lloyd are responsible for the cost of the movies and any method of playback.

Food Policy

Bringing snacks and beverages are very welcome whether it be for yourself and/or others is acceptable. Voluntarily donating snacks for everyone is very welcome, obviously. If possible (money permitting), Lloyd and/or Dustin may bring snacks and beverages for the enjoyment of all guests, but it's not guaranteed. Please clean up after yourself after finishing your food. We aim to leave the room as clean as we found it or better.
